The beginnings of Reeve’s Rest

This is my first venture into writing a blog. I am going to be the voice of Reeve’s Rest and give you insights into what you can expect when you share this space with us. I am doing the writing but Ted and I collaborate on ideas to share.

I am not a writer but love to share my thoughts about exciting discoveries with people. It gives me a sense of community when I share my visions with others. I always hope there will be a bit of inspiration that continues to spark ideas down the line.

I was first introduced to Reeve’s Rest in 2012. Ted brought me to the rock at the 3rd waterfall of the 3 Brothers waterfalls and asked me what I thought of the place. My immediate response was “Wow! This is so beautiful! I feel like we need to share it with others”.

The name Reeve’s Rest comes from the cottage of Ted’s childhood cottage on Moira Lake. We are continuing to use this name in honour of the support of Dave Reeve, Ted’s father, who has enabled us to continue to have this place of gathering.

And so, our journey began…
Ted and I had just met and our courtship revolved around renovation of the cabin – laying for hours under the cabin learning how to do waste plumbing, tearing out walls and putting them back together. I can’t imagine a better test of a relationship… lol!

We were determined to keep the costs at a minimum and sourced all our new kitchen and bathroom parts on Kijiji. The only brand new aspects are the custom kitchen counter and the woodstove (WETT certified).

It wasn’t all work, we had time to play and found trails to walk and ski on, paddled to Kinmount many times and found the BEST swim spots. The favourite is a “floatie parties” followed by lazy river floats to the dock!  We also take advantage of the shallow area off the island by the Falls for sitting in our lawn chairs to enjoy the sunset.

One of the most fun events was our wedding in 2014 with all the guests in the river with us for the ceremony – followed by champagne toasts for all 🙂

Floaty parties at the Falls

The last 4 years have been a journey toward the vision of a shared community gathering place. We have added a large screen porch to the cabin which enables big family gatherings. With 6 kids between us and the addition of their partners and now grandchildren – we needed to find a way to all be together here. So… we added our glamping sites – a prospector tent and yurt. Now we can accommodate up to 14 people 🙂

We invite you to come and enjoy this beautiful place with your family. Sign up for this blog and we will keep you up to date with the fun adventures to be had and the upgrades we continue to make for everyone’s enjoyment.
